Ki Ha Myung (played by Lee Jong Suk) and his brother were so intelligent since they had been kids. Their father was a fireman and died on a fire. There were several deceased victims and Sung Cha Ok reporter reported that Ha Myung's father was responsible for it. The false report made the citizen mad and torture Ha Myung's family which led to Ha Myung's mother suicide. She asked Ha Myung to jump into the ocean.
After that, Ha Myung was found by an old man. The old man thought that he was his dead older son and named him as Choi Dal Po. The old man had a son and a granddaughter, Choi In Ha (Park Shin Hye). In Ha was at the same age with Dal Po but since In Ha's grandfather said that Dal Po was his son, Dal Po became her uncle. Thinking that his brother had left him, Ha Myung didn't want to look for his brother and lived as Dal Po.
13 years later, In Ha applied to be a reporter since her mother, Sung Cha Ok, was also a reporter. Reporter Sung became an anchor and a unit manager in MSC news station. In Ha applied for a job there so she could meet her mother. Her parents had divorced since she was a kid and she only talked to her mother through SMS. She thought if she worked at the same company, her mother would happy to see her. But, her imagination was ruined by her mother respond. She was cold and harsh even to her own daughter. She wondered why she was different from whom she talked to through SMS.
The real sender was Seo Bum Jo, a son of chaebol who owned Bum Jo Department Store. 13 years ago, Manager Sung lost her phone at Bum Jo's house and Bum Jo picked it up. He played as In Ha's mother to support her dream. Bum Jo also applied to be a reporter in order to meet In Ha in person. Meanwhile, Dal Po worked as a taxi driver. He didn't go to university so In Ha got to higher education.
In Ha lost her opportunity to be a reporter because she suffered from Pinocchio syndrome. She would be hiccuping when she told lies. In Ha was desperate and would like to give up but Dal Po cheered her up and told her that he would be a reporter too. He promised to tell citizen only the truth. Dal Po made the choice also to revenge to Manager Sung because she was the one who ruined his family.
On the other hand, Dal Po's brother, Jae Myung, killed three people who made the wrong report related to his father. Dal Po knew that Jae Myung was a killer. He made his brother to turn himself in to police and he would revenge Manager Sung by his own way instead. Because it was his brother's wish, Jae Myung agreed to surrender and turned himself in.
Pinnochio syndrome in this drama is not the real disease. Maybe it's inspired by the effect when Pinnochio lies. We know that the wooden puppet named Pinnochio. When he tells lies, his nose will grow longer. In this drama Pinnochio syndrome is described as hiccuping when telling lies. Sometimes, I wonder what if everyone has this kind of syndrome. Maybe no lie, only the truth. Even white lies are lies. Personally, I prefer truth though even it's hurt. :D So, this drama teaches us to be brave telling truth and not to lie to ourselves.
